MAGICAL GROUPS
Everyone who attends Idris Academy has something magical and special about them. In general, there are five different magical groups.

Magical Groups
mages
Ever wanted to control the elements? Blast ice from your hands or hurl fireballs out of nowhere? Mages do all that and more. They come to the Academy to learn to control their ability to utilize the elements, failing which their powers often end up consuming them. Mages come from everywhere, all walks of life. Most mages do not actually have mage parents. Their powers are not something that is inherited, but discovered when they go through adolescence. When they reach the age of maturation, signs start appearing. You can be really angry in the midst of an argument when the table next to you suddenly catches fire or driving back in a storm when lightning strikes down the fallen tree in the middle of the road blocking your way. Mages are powerful people, but they are constantly aware of the potential of losing their lives if they let those powers overwhelm them.

faie
Pale and pretty as they may be, Faie have superhuman strength and speed. As if that’s not enough, they live way, way longer than any other people. They age normally until they're 10, then, ageing a year for them means that five decades of real time would have passed. Faie are decided by blood, they inherit everything from looks to agelessness. Their sharp features and pale skin make them almost unnaturally attractive to others. These people could basically take any lover they wished to, attract the attention of anyone they wanted. But at a horrible price. They would outlive all the people they cared about, save for their family. Some Faie choose to bear the pain and take mundie lovers, but the diluting of their bloodlines mean that there are less and less of the Faie appearing with each generation. And of course, the rest of them are not pleased with this at all. In fact, any Faie from a respectable clan will frown upon such behaviour.

therians
They are the only magical folk that match the Faie in strength. Unsurprisingly, Faie and Therians have never gotten along well. In fact, there were many recorded wars between the two groups in history. But since the conception of the Academy, there has been a longstanding truce called between both clans. That said, it is still highly unlikely to spot any Faie and Therian spending time together even at the Academy. Therians possess the ability to shapeshift into specific animals. Most times, these are large mammals, but occasionally, there are the odd few who morph into smaller creatures or even reptiles. Although Therians, like Faie live in clans, the animals they shift into are a reflection of each individual's inherent nature and occurs in tune to their moods. It is highly unlikely to find an entire clan of Therians that shift into the same animal. Therians also tend to be highly emotional and prone to mood swings or outbursts.

witches
Telekinesis? Telepathy? Teleportation? Witches have that one special magical ability that they can utilise as easily as others can breathe. But controlling those powers is another totally different thing altogether. The magical abilities of the witches are as powerful as the witches can grow to be. Telekinesis to the extreme can mean shifting tides and parting rivers. Teleportation can be honed to the specific translocation of various objects all over the world to a single destination at once, and over great distances. The possibilities are endless, but of course, adeptness at their art would only come with time and a lot of practice. And most of the witches that start off at the Academy are barely able to control their gifts, let alone manage such feats. Abilities of the witches vary according to their characters and like Mages, signs for witches only appear during adolescence and are not inherited but rather discovered and can be considered a random spot of luck.

warlocks
By far the most mysterious of all the five groups, Warlocks are often misconstrued as evil and foreboding. Their talent for spellwork is not something that can be inherited, but something that is discovered much like witches or mages. But the nature of their magick lends them no good faith with the rest of the magical world. Warlocks are gifted in the most treacherous spellwork. Think ritual magic, circles, candles, ancient runes and the like. All of that together at once, with the addition of varying elements like blood and bones, give Warlocks their reputation as dark magicians. In actual fact, although talented at what appears to be dark sorcery, Warlocks are often wise beyond their ages. They tend to be reticent in nature and prefer isolation. Of course, there have been numerous Warlocks in history whose brilliance turned against them, their quest for greater power and knowledge numbing their senses. What does it mean for the magical community if such instances are occurring more and more frequently?
